PUTT-PUTT

Back in the 50's I lived in a small town in Wisconsin.
Running through the town was the Soo Line Railroad.
I never heard the term "speeder" until the article in Modeltec on
building a Fairmont "speeder.  The only name I knew them by was "PUTT-PUTT".
Building a PUTT-PUTT has been on the back burner of things to build for about 20+ years until now.

I purchased the motor, controller, and throttle from "electricscooterparts.com".
The motor is 350 watts.  I'm guessing that will be enough power for hauling one person.
Total cost for the electrics was a little over $100.

The bearings were purchased on ebay for $7 each plus shipping for a total cost of $36.

The wheels were purchased from Roll Models.  I got them for a different project,
so I had them on hand.  They are about $20 machined.

I will be using two U1 size batteries connected in series (24v) for power.  If these don't give
enough running time, there is enough room for two small car batteries.

The frame will be fabricated using 1" square tubing.  The axles are 3/4" crs bar stock.

The above pictures are of the basic frame.  Once I get all of the details worked out,
I will be adding fully demensioned drawings.

Today I added the handle-bar.  The second picture shows the drum brake and the third

picture shows the throttle and brake handle mounted on the handle-bar.

To see the DWF Model, you will have to download and install
the DWF Viewer.
The advantage of looking at the model with the Viewer is that the
Viewer will allow you to rotate and take the model apart for
a better look at the details of the construction.
